Post Stick tune - Ethereal
I thought y'all could use a tune. Happy Easter, guys. Composed on Stick, and played in real-time while I recorded it; guitar parts and synth stuff was added after so that I could capture the feeling I was looking for. Think "Looooong journey to get to where you're going, and the destination isn't always what one thought it might be..." I did put a bit of thought into this one, but it was done this morning. I hope you like it, thanks for checking it out!

Awesome! So many layers here and so much going on harmonically and texturally, yet a few simple riffs and melodies and a lot of soulful energy. Ethereal is a really good piece here, Scott. Maybe one of your best (that's impossible to say. You have a lot of really good ones.)

As I said on email, I'd love to see you playing all the different parts of this at once. That's my new thing: watching multi-instrumentalists planning all the instruments at the same time. I'm a huge fan of Walk off the Earth and what they do "live" for videos, playing many different instruments right after another or at the same time. I won't hijack this thread with other videos but just a thought.

Anyway, an excellent piece, Scott! Maybe the product of an hour's work, but also the product of a lifetime spent working on it. You "know where to make the mark"!

Happy Fun Family Story Time (to explain cryptic reference in the sentence above):
Quote:
Ford, whose electrical engineers couldn’t solve some problems they were having with a gigantic generator, called Steinmetz in to the plant. Upon arriving, Steinmetz rejected all assistance and asked only for a notebook, pencil and cot. According to Scott, Steinmetz listened to the generator and scribbled computations on the notepad for two straight days and nights. On the second night, he asked for a ladder, climbed up the generator and made a chalk mark on its side. Then he told Ford’s skeptical engineers to remove a plate at the mark and replace sixteen windings from the field coil. They did, and the generator performed to perfection.

Henry Ford was thrilled until he got an invoice from General Electric in the amount of $10,000. Ford acknowledged Steinmetz’s success but balked at the figure. He asked for an itemized bill.

Steinmetz, Scott wrote, responded personally to Ford’s request with the following:

Making chalk mark on generator $1.

Knowing where to make mark $9,999.

Ford paid the bill.

Hey, thanks for checking it out Steve! I always appreciate your thoughtful replies on music threads! If I get a chance this week, I will do a "play along" for the Stick stuff!

Hey! Guys, thanks for checking it out! I hope y'all got a kick out of it, it was made for fun... Yep, mirrored 4ths is my deal as far as tuning goes right now. Originally I was going to make a sort of jam video, y'know just videotaping it as I go, but alas there was one little fill (B dim chord) that I kind of tripped up on at the time. So alas, I had to just make a "recording" of it. Most of this was done in pretty much one pass, though so that's cool. A lot of the technical stuff on Stick I was hung up on last year I have managed to get past, so I can now really focus on music. Playing Stick is really, really fun right now, I can't get enough of it...

I still might try a video playalong of it a bit later, just the Stick stuff.
