Post Tap Theory - April Performances
Finally, no snow on a release day!

Since this month's unofficial theme has become chord shapes and rhythmic interplay over at Tap Theory, I thought I'd bring back a couple of old arrangements that addressed these topics nicely, complete with tabs and video breakdowns for each performance. Check it out at https://www.patreon.com/jgoldbergmusic

The first is my old arrangement of I Shot The Sheriff by Bob Marley and the Wailers. This was one of the first tunes I arranged for solo Stick and it still gives me new insight into the instrument to this day.

The second is an arrangement I did for a jazz piece I fell in love with in college, Afro Blue by Mongo Santamaria. Parts of this arrangement still test the limits of my abilities, which is both exciting and frustrating.

Enjoy!

Snow..I've heard of that stuff.
More material to explore, when someone invents 56 hours in a day I'm buying the prototype. :o

I'm impressed. Lines and chords in each hand separately, then integrated with interlocking 16th note upbeats and downbeats. That's a large vocabulary to have under the fingers. Josh's evolving style extends to both diverse genres, which means to me, there's no end in sight.

Wow, Josh! I Shot the Sherriff shows you just expressing yourself with great fluidity and ease. I love your arrangement of this classic tune. It's been expanded quite a bit and sounds very uniquely you. Love the syncopation and the "jazzieness" of it.

Afro Blue was phenomenal. Man, I can see why that song is "challenging." Because it's rocking, and hard AF!

Kickass videos, Josh, thanks for sharing! I learn something every time I watch you, even if it's only that "we're not worthy!" [Flips Garth-hair back, raises arms, and fall to the floor, bowing...] You rock!

Thank you everyone! I'm glad that even though these arrangements are fairly old, they're not dated and people are still getting something out of them.
