Coup Detroit - Bleeding
This tune was a bit more of pop(ish) kind of tune but I always enjoyed this one quite a bit. Plus it was one of the first tunes I was asked to play Stick and do some backing vocals.
As usual the Stick holds down the bass parts. There is a single melody line that runs throughout much of the song. In the verses and first chorus it's pretty clean run through a slow gear with some compression to give it some sustain. In later choruses the line is fuzzed up and run through a wah pedal.
The solo after the second chorus is melody Stick as well.

I like this. I love 'actual tunes' a lot more than instrumental only type stuff, so I am all over a post like this like white on rice. Awesome. Keep 'em coming, I always listen.

What an excellent song, and an excellence use of Stick within a pop song setting. Nice solo as well. Thanks for sharing this, Glenn!

Re: Coup Detroit - Bleeding
I am utterly amazed, that on a musician website, with people playing innovative custom instruments that cost thousands of dollars, there aren't more people going "jeez yeah, that's awesome" or at least a "That blows, Poorman! Michaelangelo Batio woulda done that different..."
Free music. Free, well played, well recorded music. On the instrument that we all have in common...
Lol I am bumping this thread, and listening to it again. And not just because I like it, either.

Re: Coup Detroit - Bleeding
Thanks much for the bump and the kind words all! All this talk of the Stick in a full band context reminded of an old Stick record that is rarely celebrated here and should be. When I first started playing Stick, one of the regular names that came up a lot back then was Kasey Arrillaga. He and his vocalist wife Kira were "Third Door Down". When they recorded their second record "Refraction" they added a couple of backup singers and also added an additional Stick player in Colin Jenkenson. I was writing CD reviews for Emmett back then and he sent their CD along so I could listen and put up a web page for it. I recall being really floored just because I was so used to hearing "Solo Stick CDs" (not that there's anything wrong with that ) that I wasn't prepared for the collection of really wonderfully crafted songs that I heard. Stick Enterprises still carries the CD and I highly recommend it. I'm pretty sure you can hear samples in places like YouTube or Amazon if you search for it. Not sure what has since happened to Kasey or Colin.
