Re: Coup Detroit - Disadvantage

So, was this stuff recorded in a studio, or did you guys "DIY" it? I'd be curious to hear about the process...
Studio recording by a gentleman named Roscoe who ran "Roscoe's Recording" on Detroit's east side. Roscoe was pretty well know for being one of the "go to" guys for some really well known (locally) Detroit bands. I'm guessing that Gary Jibilian probably has some Roscoe stories from back in his Thornetta Davis days.
He's definitely old school. At the time we recorded this particular record, he had gone to a computer based setup for the conveniences but still did things the way you would back in the tape days. So we all setup and played the tunes as a band and then went back for the few overdubs we did later and also to redo the lead vocals.
His whole studio was based on the Paris system by (I believe) Ensoniq. When I asked why not Pro Tools or Logic, he said he didn't care about the bells and whistles and just felt that Paris "sounded better". I'm pretty sure that, since then, he's made the switch to Pro Tools only because it allows him to share projects with other studios and with his customers home studios.
An interesting cat for sure.
