Stick + Cello
SG12 and electric cello have become my favorite (studio) combo for creating pieces by quick improvisation. Typically I start laying down something with the Stick and then add a second take with the cello. All effects are played simultaneously by MIDI pedals and recorded with the instruments.

Re: Stick + Cello
Nice music Per. We both use this combination...stick and cello. Our sytles are different though but this combination is very nice. I know we have the same cello also...NS Steinberger. On my side, sometimes, I also play a fretless guitar with this combination. Congrats for your recording...

Re: Stick + Cello
Hi Per. I am curious if you use a bridge pickup(and what kind) or mic when you record your cello? Or is it something else? I have tried introducing my cello at Liquid Nixon shows to very small success. Mostly because I don't know how to amplify it properly. The last time I used it at a show, we were playing Dancing Days by Led Zeppelin( I was playing the lead guitar parts and solo on my cello) and I had to actually move off the stage and onto the dance floor to play it to avoid feeding back. It went over well with the crowd, but was highly distracting to try to play down there. Not a great night but gave me a funny story to tell!
I must say, your improvisations sound flawless. Many times they take on an ambient or hypnotic quality, and I never hear any bad notes.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Mike

flynlion wrote: More please Ok, here's another one that I just recorded this afternoon: In this one I just played the Stick for punching in notes into two poly-rhythm related delays with a reversed kill switch pedal. Then I hurried up to record cello while still remembering the improvisation's harmonic structure. French horn was added last, with a sampler instrument played by keys. mike kemp wrote: Hi Per. The sound is picked up somewhere inside the wood, I guess. I don't know how sensitive the NS Cello is for acoustic feedback, as I have not yet used it live on stage. I want to do that in the future though so I will have to test it first on some loud PA system.

Re: Stick + Cello
We used that combination in the Inclined. The bowed and fretless feel of the cello mixed with the rhythmic and melodic elements of the Stick offer a nice mix of textures.
