Post Emmet playing - OMG!
This just showed up on Facebook. Again, I'm speechless. The talent of this man! Watching and learning!

Yes he is THE man. Amazing. It's funny I listen to parallel galaxy and hear phrasing which is so innovative and fresh and he was the first.

I can only liken his approach to the musical greats. Wes Montgomery, Charlie Parker, Trane mile, Evans , they all still give so much to the listener even years after their innovation,

Emmett is like this as well. Must listening for any musician.

Agreed, Brett.

Always maintained that Emmet was the best. A more intuitive player than the most technically gifted. You can't make that stuff up. Or can you?

Parallel Galaxy is fantastic. The Patch of Shades drives me a little bit nuts, but it has it's own vibe.

On a seemingly unrelated note, I agree with Emmett on the 10 vs. 12 string. The 10 grand would seem to me to be the most logical in his hands... certainly in mine. Not sure why everyone doesn't have one. This would seem a peripheral issue, but my ears very commonly detect mistakes in the right hands of stickists when they solo, and even Emmet in this video is no exception. I believe the 10 Grand would help eliminate such mistakes. I have always thought the spacing on a Grand Stick, and even a standard 10, is too narrow.

It's neither here nor there. The video is sick. The man can play.

Emmett truly is a remarkable man. Stories of him often inspire me to think differently and try to push myself in new directions.

I've seen videos of Emmett playing recently, but I hadn't seen such a long video and one of '87 before! This was some really great playing. As Kev said, that Patch of Shades with the flange is a bit too much, but it was '87 and I see it as one way of getting around the fact that it's harder to do sustained things for long on the Stick than it is for, say, keyboards. There was some nice, held out discordance against changing tonalities that had to be a "freeze" like patch or box of some kind. I don't know what the tech was in '87 (I was a junior in high school, which either makes me really old or young, depending on where you're standing!)

I enjoyed both the fast, rhythmic driving and also the slower, more soulful parts. Just lots to like here. I really enjoyed the interview at the beginning as well!

Thanks for sharing, Rodrigo!

Edit to previous post ****

The mistakes I mentioned are almost always the accidental striking of a 4th interval. It is so very common, that to me it has come to define the sound of all tapping instruments, and the Stick in particular as it has (to my knowledge, maybe someone will correct me if I am wrong) the narrowest string spacing and is set up very, very low, making the sounding of notes very easy.

I would be interested to hear sonic comparisons between the 10 Grand and the 12 Grand.

Not too sure I heard any mistakes or mis-triggers; Even if there's some stuff that's a bit 'outside" maybe he meant to play that, after all he does improvise a lot.

I liked that trippy phased out sound. Pretty unique, and holy crap! Chops to spare!

Yep, watched it a couple more times. I'd definitely sell a kidney to play like that. Back to practice...
