Re: Emmet playing - OMG!
I just listened to it a second time. Very amazing L.H. and when the R.H. is playing in a very active way...well, in fact when both hands are playing really busy, that means you need to reach a very high level of hands independance. What I can see and hear here is quite unique. Some phrases with the R.H. are sometimes going "out of the tonality" and I feel everything under control because I also can hear a resolution of these musical phrases. To be able to do this is a great art by itself. We have to consider that we hear an improvisation. Emmett describes himself as an improviser at the beginning of this video and he has all my respect because that's exactly what I can hear. Fabulous and great video...a real witness of something that hapened close to 30 years ago...bravo.

Facebook video embedding doesn't seem to be working... Do you mean you can't see it?

Re: Emmet playing - OMG!
Holy Hell... that is MOST impressive playing, and considering it is 30 years ago, at the early stages of Stick development, it boggles my mind to see how great a player Emmett is/was even back then! I loved watching the independence of the hands, incredible... Emmett I think is using both sides of his brain independently!! It is the only explanation lol! I hope someday I will have the opportunity to see Emmett perform live, shake his hand (probably both simultaneously!) and thank "The Man" for this incredible instrument.

Re: Emmet playing - OMG!
Heartwarming to read all your comments about my old music and performance from 1987. Using both hands and both feet, there were at least three layers under instant whimsical control: the straight Stick strings, Patch of Shades wah with effects, and a Yamaha TX7 orchestra controlled by a very early Commodore computer for sustained instrumental accompaniment.
There were no "freeze" pedals then, only reverb which I later tried to disguise into an orchestral "sweetener" sustaining selected RH melody notes and intervals. Freeze is what I always heard in my head, escaping the rhythm limitations of echoes and loops. Ahhh, now I have "Big Sky" and the stratosphere is my limit.
Many thanks again, also to Greg for remixing some questionable audio. More song arrangements with improvs from that '80s session coming soon.

Re: Emmet playing - OMG!
I've watched this about 50 times since it was posted. Very inspirational, the playing and the dialogue. It's really got me thinking about my own playing that's for sure!
I have come to the conclusion that I would absolutely love to watch Emmet do some improvising, talk about it a bit, improvise a bit, talk about it a bit rinse/repeat. Maybe a whole shwack of internet hosted video clips as a kind of companion to the free hands book? Oh hey, and while you're at it Emmett I'd love a new album... hmmmn. Better make it a double album? Thanks! lol

I still got my 64... I hook it up every so often to play cheesy video games, which are just as entertaining as the newfangled ones. I suspect that Emmett sneaked an occasional game of TELENGARD or JUMPMAN or ULTIMA in between performances of musical brilliance, with Yuta rolling her eyes behind the scenes. Um, by the way, I have a fully-functional Commodore 64 set which I am willing to sell if anyone is interested. And by the way, I have another fully-functional Commodore 64 set as well. Just PM me, and that technological powerhouse can be yours! Not kidding. K Rex
