K Rex activities
Hi,
While I have been busy producing new material with my band, I have also been doing a bit of performing lately with my son, Kieran. It is quite satisfying watching his progress, and watching his tastes become more eclectic as he grows older.
This is "Burn the Witch" by Radiohead, and it's very different from the recorded version. I wish the video had a better vantage point, but the vibe is there enough to get the point across that we are slaying it lately....
My latest solo project is forthcoming, and I will post it here when I am ready to share.

Kev, Kieran has a nice voice and rocked that out. You should be proud! Thanks for sharing that!
Can't wait to hear what you've been up to lately.
Is that you banging on the drums/Zenndrums again?

Man, that WAS really good. You're playing cajon on this stuff, right? I like the Jungle grooves you put down on it; a lot of drummers can't do that stuff on their kits. And Kieran was really solid through all that rhythmic displacement. Bravo!

Re: K Rex activities
I understand how difficult it is to capture a moment like that without appearing like one of these people... http://www.edmtunes.com/wp-content/uplo ... ogress.jpgI would really like to hear that one better... Our son was recently involved in a play (The Laramie Project) - kind of "edgy" for a small private school...but during the closing set one of his friends played an acoustic guitar and they all sang part of the closing song to the play - it was really something. I saw my niece in a play and she got up there on stage and just belted out her solo (it was a musical) - and you know, there is just something really wonderful watching your kids get into music and just pour their heart into something! It's weird...for kids who to me sometimes seem shy, withdrawn, absorbed with freakin' cell phones, whatever - when they get into playing music they just gain this level of confidence and of being themselves that is very rewarding and comforting to see. Randy sorry - wish I could figure out hot to make that stupid picture smaller!

Dammit, Randy, now I have to use the scroll-thingy to read everyone's posts. Way to go, pal!
Yeah, teenagers tend to obsess on tech these days, and more often than not it ain't a good thing. Interest in music can reign in a distracted mind, and musical aptitude creates real discipline -- as real and meaningful as martial arts or literature.
I'm going to try to get a better video of this piece... we'll be playing it in our set more in the near future.
Hey, congratulations on your son's achievement. That's great! Kieran is spending the week at Shakespeare camp at William & Mary. He tried out for "The Tempest," which is weird because I didn't think it was part of this year's lineup of features... he got the part of the boatswain. I was in Virginia Beach at band practice, and felt like a rotten dad.
I've always had some twisted desire to act on stage, to be part of a production... it'll never happen. I will have to live vicariously through my kids, I reckon. My daughter, Mairin, was in numerous plays at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, and my daughter, Ainslie, was Mary Lennox in "The Secret Garden" in the VB Little Theatre a few years back. It's freaky how excited we get about our children's performances, isn't it? It's fantastic, I'm really stoked for you, Randy.

I am glad you felt the vibe of what we were doing. Kieran has listened to enough of my music at this point to understand it, and he has the ability to keep stuff down without being distracted. He's really, really good, and he's only 14. A giant, 6' 1" 14, but still only 14. The original radiohead song is great. I haven't liked much of their stuff since "Hail to the Thief," but the latest one is pretty good. I hadn't heard the piece until Kieran said he wanted to play it. Now that we have amassed a bunch of songs we are contemplating playing shows... for money... It all sounds really good -- They Might Be Giants, Radiohead, Jack White, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, just for starters. Anyone heard Unknown Mortal Orchestra? Superb pop band from NZ. Great, fantastic stuff. K
