i also think the dave holland quintet rules

i saw the vibraphonist
recently w/ his own band in california
at the jazz bakery. hmm i gues i should check
to see if they are coming out here soon..

Dave Holland is one of my favorite jazz bassists of all time. I got to meet him after seeing his quintet perform at Birdland a few years ago. In addition to being a fantastic player, he's also a really nice guy. I was sitting at one of the tables over by the bar with my bass teacher (who studied with Dave for a few years), and Dave's wife was talking to a man that I didn't recognize initially. About 2 minutes before the group started playing, the man got up and said "Excuse me, I have to go play." About two minutes later, he came back out on stage with sax in hand. It was Chris Potter.
