Post What Glorious Noise, Two of a Perfect Trio.
Caught the "Two of a Perfect Trio" show last night. The Stickmen were cool. The Adrian Belew Power Trio played about half soundscape sort of stuff which was okay, but I enjoyed them more when they went into pieces with a more noticeable structure.

After that Belew, Levin & Pat Mastelotto played a few King Crimson pieces as a trio (can you say Three of a Perfect Pair). Pat is an awesome percussionist. Then Markus Reuter joins for performance of Red, then Julie Slick and Tobias Ralph also join in and they tackle some of the double-trio KC material. Finally they wind up with some Early 80's classics, Encore, Thela Hun Ginjeet, or as I sing it to myself "lay off the kimchi."

Notes TL played mostly the bass side of his Stick even when he way playing melodically. When he did use the melody side it was mostly for sound effects or the occasional chord stab thrown in the middle of everything else. He only played his Stingray (5 string) bass on 2 songs. At one point (6 on stage) he was not playing at all, but was just being the back-up singer.

Markus Reuter's U8 deluxe string tapping instrument sounded good and held up well to distorted sounds. His rig seemed to be only an Apple lap-top, no idea what software he used. He makes more sound with less motion than any other musician I have witnessed.

If you are a KC fan and this show comes near you, you should go.

Actually his rig, at least in Atlanta also consisted of a line6 HD500. Not sure how he was routing everything, but the rig was simple, and effective.

And the show was great! It's interesting that they seem to play different songs in your show. there was no Red in Atlanta, but a long version of B' Boom and Thrak in it's place.

Yes, Red was an unexpected gem. TL did a pretty convincing job of getting his Stick to sound like Wetton's tone on the original recording. Markus Reuter also got a pretty Frippish tone for Red.

Another note for the TL curious, he seems to favor a vibrato along the string with his right hand and a side to side motion with his left.

... in the traditional frippish guitar circle manner, eh?

Even if he seems to not enjoy a lot the music he makes on stage, as a bunch of Fripp students, he seems to sound very well. I'd really like to attend a whole show with Tony Levin.
And his guitar is, to me, wonderful to the eyes.

What I'm saying is his motion is very efficient.

Can't wait. Seeing them next Tuesday in Boston. I was hoping they would do some Crimson material. Looks like I'm in for a treat.

No, you did not. And, he is a bit stoic :|

But I think he was having a great time in his own reserved way. :D

Man, these nested quotes are cool, just wanted to see if I could do it - maybe we can create some web art here 8-)
