Tony Levin Taking a Bow to His Stick
Very cool photo of Tony Levin using a bow on his Stick. Anyone have an audio file of this? Photo credit: Pierre-Emile Bertona. Photo provided by Tony Levin to Emmett Chapman, 12-2-09.

Wow I've never seen him do that before. Personally I'd be afraid to GUNK up the strings with the rosin but I'm sure Tony has no shortage of replacement strings!

Hi Manny,
reminds me of Andre Pelat at the German Stick Seminar (I think it was 2005...I'm not that shure)
Bowing a stick sounds great. Problem is, that you can only realy bow the "Outside-Strings" and the biggest Bass-String.
I think I saw a YouTube-Video with Bob Culbertson using a bow an a 10string Stick...
Cheers

Re: Tony Levin Taking a Bow to His Stick
At the STickmen gig here in Stockholm a couple of weeks ago both Tony and Michael used a bow on their sticks. But only for the highest strings on both sides, which are the ones you seem to get at with a bow.
I use a cello bow with a Stratocaster and the only string the bow can reach there is the lowest. I agree with the rosin being a big problem for tone. At recordings I save the bowing parts as the last thing on a day because it totally wastes the strings.

Re: Tony Levin Taking a Bow to His Stick
...not Tony Levin, but Michael Bernier can be seen here with a bow. Tony is tapping away on the right:

Very cool, ethereal. I wonder what an eBow sounds like and how it works out...
