The best I've seen from Tony Levin was on an upright bass playing old jazz standards. It was on YouTube but I've never been able to find it again. I don't know if someone took it off from YT but it's a shame because he was amazing. When I heard him I knew exactly where he was coming from. If someone has a link, thank you very much to share it, 'cause it's a beauty.

Tony is such a special person.

I saw him play at Toads Place in New Haven, maybe late spring 2004 ?? anyhow, it was the Tony Levin Band, his brother was there, Larry Fast... essentially the entire Peter Gabriel touring band without Peter, and there was maybe 50 people there.

It was one of the greatest performances I ever had the privilage to see and hear.

Tony spoke quite a bit, invited the audience to bring all the tables up close to the stage, and the band roared for well over two hours.

Tony spoke how when audiences are small it could be viewed as a bust, but on the other hand this allowed him and the band to play tunes they otherwise would not have been able to do in a larger setting.

Tony and his brother did a duet, Tony on fretless 5 sting bass, his brother on a stunning digital piano.

It brought tears to my eyes.

What I would do to be able to hear that performance again, but maybe what made it so special was knowing that once the last note faded, it would never be possible to bear witness to such beauty ever again.

Unchain MY Heart from the video posted, man what a great track, Tony is really rocking man !!

These videos are good but they're not the ones I'm thinking about. He was playing the acoustic upright and old jazz standards. I cannot believe it's not on YT anymore. It was amazing.
