Post Hunting down Greg Howard recordings (physical copies)
I hope it is not too soon after dear Greg's death to bring up this subject.

I am an active CD collector. Yeah, I know. I'm old. Whatever. My CD library, surround system with 25 disc changer is stationed in my shop and serves as daily inspiration as I work. I am also an active peruser and contributor on discogs.com - the greatest website on earth, next to this one (thanks Manny!)

If anyone out there has a copy of the following Greg recordings that you're willing to sell me, please contact me via private message here. Or email baggetthouse@gmail.com

1) Whispers - (avail. on cassette only, 1987) Greg's first recording. I have been looking for this for years. I even asked Greg about re-releasing it. He was adamant about letting his first recording fade away and almost ignoring its existence. I say "almost" because his compositions Del Mar and Requiem for Persephone made it into transcription for the Greg Howard Songbook (2010-11)

I respect Greg's decision somewhat. I'm not entirely proud of my first recording either. But I think it's important and inspiring to hear how an artist evolves. Many of the songs on Whispers ended up on Greg's later recordings (as did songs from my own first recording onto later releases) Attached photos are from the discogs listing.

2) Water On The Moon...2nd version. (CD, originally 1998, but 2nd version may have been after 2001). I have an autographed copy of the original release, which contains one single 58 minute track. Greg released a second version which had individual track listings for different sections of the entire 58 minute improv.

This would complete my Greg collection. If anyone can help, I'd be forever greatful.

...and yes! I do have one rare Greg recording oddity that I'd love to share about here. Because if there are other recordings like this, I'd love to know about them...

The Greg Howard Sampler (1999)

I received this with a press kit Greg sent me when I lived in Texas around 2000-01. I hosted the West Texas Stick Seminar March 2001. Greg was our weekend instructor.

This recording is a little extra special. It has the only audio version of "Big Meadows" Live duet w/ Darrell Rose from Greg's VHS release "Handiwork, Volume One". Also included, the only audio of a live performance by the Greg Howard Band ("Still Water"), as the studio album had yet to be released. That track is golden.

I have the second edition of Water on the moon, has no cover artwork, was made in 2001 is 59 minutes long and has individual tracks. I believe I bought it directly from Greg. Try contacting Steve Osburn, he sells Stick CD's in his store, it's possible he might have this, He is not on this forum so either message, e-mail, or call him directly and see if he has one.

Sorry to hijack your searching message, but can someone upload on YT "Handiwork vol. one"? I have this VHS at home but can't watch it again because I've no device to put it on... I wonder why Greg didn't upload it. It's a stellar performance and with Water of The Moon, there were ones of my first Stick listening experiences and I would love to have some listen again...

BTW, good luck for your research, Brian!

Will do. Thanks for the suggestion

Oddly, I do not have this one either. I thought of listing it as my #3 hunting, but I too assumed Greg had uploaded it.

I have a VHS to transfer. But I don't want to get entangled in any copyrighted issues. Plus my VHS machine is mono, so audio might transfer poorly.

I'm not surprised Greg did not upload it to YT. The last time I spoke with him with a group at Interlochen he wasn't too happy with YT. I've filmed a lot of well know musicians there, but most of my videos are locked away on my Smugmug site. Only a few make it to YT as more artists are not happy with what some people have figured out what to do with other people's vids on that platform.

Steven - I think grozoeil was meaning why didn't Greg upload it to Bandcamp and thus sell it and/or preserve it for posterity.

I'm convinced Greg didn't share Whispers again because he wasn't entirely proud of it. He was kind of a perfectionist like that.

A guy via private message here told me he once had a cassette of the Sticks & Stones recording Brand New Age, which is my favorite of Greg's more recent Bandcamp releases. I assumed it was some archived tape he had. But supposedly this was once a cassette release in 1987. Ahh...another Greg hunt down to go.

Sorry, you lost me there, you guys were talking about VHS tapes, didn't make the Bandcamp connection.

Go to Amazon.com and type in Greg Howard. I see some copies of Water on the Moon, and oddly, an author named Greg Howard has a children's book called "The Whispers"

Yeah. I saw that. Makes it a little extra hard to find Greg's first album...

And yes. I forgot about the VHS discussion. So maybe your first inquiry was correct there.
