RETURN OF SONG OF THE MONTH
Hey there all. Ive been busy with life and stopped doing the Song Of The Month challenges but feel I should start doing them again.
For those that are new the way it worked before was for a bout a week or so everyone who wants to participate makes a suggestion of a song we should all learn. Ill add it to a poll and we all vote on the song and the winning song becomes the song of the month.
I have found these as a fantastic way to add songs to your setlist. It's also a great way to start learning a song. I encourage everyone to try and come up with an arrangement of the song for the month. You would have a month to get your version up and posted. (preferably a video but audio is cool too. Whats really neat about this is hearing everyones versions and how they are different. It's also a place where we can borrow ideas from each other.
All the past song of the month songs have made it onto my setlists and are my strongest songs. I use them whenever I play out in public. The song of the month also, for me anyway, allow me to play songs that i never sould have considered playing before.
The rules are simple
1 Suggest one song only 2 wait and vote when the poll comes out in about a week. 3 Once the winning song is announced you have a month to get er done. ( you can post anytime even several months afterwards so there should be no pressure) 4 record YOUR version of the song either audio or video It can be just the start or the whole song. As much as you are comfortable. 5 You can vote a song but you are not obligated to create your version if you are not comfortable with it. 6 The song should have some stick element in it either the whole thing or just a little stick.
This is fun. In the past we have had some great performances and a big variety of styles. vocals and non vocal pieces.
Im going to suggest Daniel by Elton John as my suggestion to be voted on.
Whats your suggestion of what you would think would make a great song to learn?
I look forward to hearing from as many as possible and seeing what we can all come up with.
Rob

Re: RETURN OF SONG OF THE MONTH
Another optional item would be to add a score for the song. I know this is a lot to ask, but it really helps others learn

Quote: Another optional item would be to add a score for the song Great idea-not that I personally know how to do that-but whoever can add Tab -that would be gold. I usually work with chord charts-which I can attach here !

I learned it once but I have forgotten it already - Various covers are out there that will give you ideas. The sheet music for this should be readily available, if you can’t find it pm me. Re: RETURN OF SONG OF THE MONTH
It doesn’t have to be fancy to outline the rudiments of a song.
When I used to take lessons, my teacher would provide the bass chord progression as well as the scale key for the melody. This was enough to get started. No fancy software was needed.
I really like watching you guys play, but I’d like it even more if I could follow along and perhaps take a stab at the song as well.

Re: RETURN OF SONG OF THE MONTH
I could provide chord changes for the winning songs but as far as arrangements go with tab every person who does a cover will do it differently. Part of the fun of this is seeing what others are able to do. People if they have the ability can reharmonize a tune or go crazy with it.
David Tipton has a certain style of playing that works really well. His left hand seems to do a lot of the same thing and it sounds great. Others like Greg and Bob have a different approach and there own styles as do Bruce and Olivier and Mike H.
Also anyone can suggest a song and they dont have to play the song. Im looking to expand my set list and this is a great and fun way to do it.

RETURN OF SONG OF THE MONTH
You could go all 1800’s this time with ‘Hard times come again no more’ by Stephen foster. I have the sheet music for it somewhere so I’ll post it if it’s selected. There’s a bunch of YouTube videos out there of acoustic guitar versions, so those would give some some ideas of how to approach it. There’s piano versions too

Re: RETURN OF SONG OF THE MONTH
Great idea! I could add interactive tabs and upload them to uktimateguitar so we star building a library.
