Post Antibot/antispam 24 hour marker
Just marking 24 hours since the installation of additional antibot/antispam mods for the forum app.

So far so good, only 1 got through, but was a human. Not seeing any bot registrations or pendings.

A tip o' the hat to Manny, as he does battle with the Godless, spambot vermin.

Excellent, well done indeed ! Wish I could keep them out of my hotmail inbox even half as well... :D
Guess there's no way to stop the human ones...("Bloody Vikings...")
And of course anyone who actually misses the spam can go here :

Looks like something may have gotten thru.... Do you think it might be a bot or a malicious user?

Hm, well I didn't see it/him... guess if it was anything malicious it'd be dealt with.

Two items from "Tradebuzzing" got posted in classified...so if the bots are not doing it.

Manny - maybe some sort of email authentication needs to be setup?

The recent antibot registration mod has been working well. Basically a human is needed, instead of OCR software to register. Log out of this site, then start a new Register process and you'll see what I mean.

The ones that do get through are actually from human registrations then ensuing spam. There are cheap labor pools in India that some spammers pay to find boards, register, enter CAPTCHA verifiers, confirmation emails, etc. Those accounts/spams on this board will last maybe a day or two before I do the IP ban on the account and delete all posts from the account.

Email verification is already part of the registration process, new accounts need to confirm via an activation link in the auto-email that is sent out. Also, new account info (email, IP address, etc) gets checked with Spamhaus blacklist and catches many of them, though not all since these spamming vermins are tricky and spoofing all sorts of info to obfuscate their identity/data trail.

The battle continues but now I'm at the cruising/monitoring stage; issues have decreased about 90% for me at this point. Again, thanks to all who have PM'd me with antispam/antibot registration mod resources.
