Re: Any chance for spam cleaner?
The spammers and crap-merchants have been out in full swing. My RSS feed of Stickist is 98% spam announcements. Looks at front page... holy shite! The entire front page is spam announcements. Manny, help!

I volunteered for a mod position on the guitar forum I frequent because I was tired of SPAM. I extend the same offer to Manny.

But when I check in and find out hot teens do, in fact, want me I just treat it as a daily affirmation.
and given that there really aren't all that many sticks in the world it's good to see that the same stick can be offered for sale by multiple "owners"
Maybe I'll just buy the forum out soon since I hav about $250 million US coming in from no less than 5 separate deposed Nigerian princes

In the grand scheme of things I just don't feel like there is enough of that kind of activity to warrant a change. That may change but for now, those posts are pretty obvious and Manny generally cleans them out as soon as he sees them.

True, annoying - but the automated stuff is easy to spot.
I try to keep an eye on scams that are human generated (like selling sticks that they don't actually have) and reporting that

Is it different using an RSS feed than it is over a browser? I don't see a lot of spam on this forum, metal detectors notwithstanding.

Hi, Victor! Manny deletes the user and their posts. But I use NewsBlur and those posts seems to linger on forever on the RSS feed. I’m not sure how that backend voodoo works.
I just checked NewsBlur and all those spammy Russian posts still show up in the RSS feeder. But I just ignore those 87 notifications and scroll to the new, non-Cyrillic encoded headers.
I check at least every morning with my morning coffee, this site and any spam reports, which triggers email notifications to me. Suspect users get their IP checked out and often get IP banned or email banned, along with their posts auto-deleted.
New registered users get an email to click/verify; this is the usual setting. But, like now when the spambots are surging, I lock it down to I have to approve all new users, which is easy enough to do. I had 7 new user notifications, and only 1 of them appeared legit; I deleted 6.
I vacillate between user email verification and admin approval, and there's been a few times I just locked it down to not accepting any new users, which typically lasts for about a week when the spambot surge is over.
Just the usual pest control ... thanks for the thoughts of assistance!
Addendum: And keep those spam reports and suspicious classifieds coming, they really help a lot in keeping this forum "our community!"
