Post Still at Interlochen
Hi all,

Still cooking up here at Interlochen but now in the throws of fingerstyle guitar playing with some wicked instruction and playing from Thom Bresh and Don Ross.

So last night we had an open mic off campus at a local bar/restaurant (the Karlin Inn) where everybody got to play. I played the Stick at the open mic (the director had ask me to) and had a chance to pull out "Black Orpheus" for Thom Bresh and the dude loved it. This guy is fairly legendary in guitar circles and his father was Merl Travis. So here's this guy in his deep southern voice that you could hear in the next county saying "well I just love what you're doing there. What do you call that thing?"

Fun.

Yeah. The workshop is run by Matt Schroeder from Milwaukee and Tom Clippert from Chicago. This years teachers were Thom Bresh and Don Ross.

I talked about Bresh a lot all weekend just because of his history and some of the great stories he told. Don Ross was amazing though and I probably personally got the most from his workshops.

Short update from my phone. Right after the guitar workshop, severe weather blew through the area. Power has been out since Sunday. Trees down everywhere. Tons if property damage. Our place is unscathed but we've been out with the chainsaw helping neighbors who didn't fair as well. My wife and I were on foot when the beast blew in and had to find cover. Damnedest thing I ever saw. More when our power is back. In the meantime, you can look up Glen Arbor storm on Google images and see photos of the monster.
