Post Apple has wiped out my ipad music
Hey folks.
This is a caution with regard to itunes and ipad connection. I was trying to put 1 song on my ipad last week (from my pc) and when I was done, my ipad had lost all the legit music that I had painstakingly collected for the last 4 yrs. All playlists, album art and about 20G of music I had ripped from discs or other means had disappeared. What was left was all the music I had DL'ed direct to my ipad and nothing more. Almost as bad is the fact that what was left was now in this bloody cumulus cloudy thingy, ....so I couldnt play anything direct from my ipad when I was on the road.
My blackened heart sank to new depths....

All of the music that I lost was still in itunes on my PC,.....but it was a complete shitshow getting it back to the ipad and now my nice clean music app is still a mess.

The FAQ section on apples site if rife with peeps who lost way more than me, and they are choked. Apple minions are strangely silent when it comes to answering What The Fuck?

So....

If you plan on "syncing" or adding anything to your ipad from itunes on a PC, .....I dont know what to tell you,......other than if I knew then what I know now........
caveats....
cheers,
kev

Hi Kevin, Sorry to hear about this problem. I have seen this so many times. Once was enough for me. I have avoided i-devices ever since. They do what they want, not necessarily what you want. :(

Cheers,

Simon

Hi Kevin,

Such a drag and the dark side of "collected data" to be sure. When the cloud starts going down, then the feces will really hit the fan....

This is the reason I don't trust ANYONE's cloud ... Apple, Windows, it doesn't matter. I want data to be saved and backed up to my own machinery.
I would say that no one needs to avoid any one operating system because of this type of incident. It happens to all of them. I would simply say that you need to have your account settings set up to save to your own machine, and even have a backup on a separate hard drive or flash drives, rather than a cloud.
Sorry to hear this, Kevin. It truly is suck-age to a high degree.

Apple has always been pretty bad as far as messing with your stuff. Way back when, iTunes took it upon itself to do a number on all of my tags and album art and I made some process changes after that.

I still prefer iTunes for listening on my computers and I use iTunes Match. But these days, any time I acquire any new music (downloads, ripping, etc), I use a 3rd party tool to setup all of the tags and artwork, write protect my files, backup my files, and then drop them into iTunes (and iTunes Match).

Cloud is good stuff but you still need to regard this stuff as if it were crates of records. Take care of them. Don't lose them. Don't loan them out. Etc.

Theres a lot to be said about having hard copies I guess. My wife put all of our tunes on one of those fancy flash drives, next best thing me thinks.
Cant believe I'm the only loser on here this has happened to :P
I really like apple products too but.....dang what a disaster.

unhappy cheers,
kev

I have had some pretty nasty things happen to my music on both my ipad and my iphone. It is very confounding, but I look at it more as an oppornity to clean house and make sure what I have is what I listen to and want. Sure, it can be frustrating, but it happens so rarely, that I look at it as a way to sort through accumulated stuff.

I think my fan-boy is showing.

so you did or didn't have iTunes match? Because I have it, which I do, and if anything happens to whatever music I have downloaded from Match onto my phone - I can just re-download it again.

Same with my computer (which is a Mac)...

I do have iTunes set up on my Mac to automatically DL everything I buy through iTunes onto my Mac, because I also like having the actual files, but that's really just to make it easier to copy and share music with my friends, not because I actually need the files on my computer.

Are you saying you had local music on your iPad that you hadn't sync'd with Match?

No I dont use match, perhaps I should......but I still think this is extremely nefarious of Apple, and for simple end users like me, :ugeek: it shouldnt have happened.

cheers,
