Re: A Podcast
Excellent interview, Hammond. Very enjoyable.
I know Emmett downplays it in this interview, but I really think Hammond is on to something and makes a valid point, when he says "he finds himself being a better problem-solver" since he started playing The Stick.
There is a mind-expanding aspect to playing The Stick, that I think Emmett just takes for granted.
The Free Hands method of playing strings, using the ambidexterity of both hands playing independent and simultaneous ideas, the player opens up portals of crosstalk between both sides of their brain.

Re: A Podcast
Thanks, Dan and Brett.
I had a lot of fun talking to Emmett. Dan, once again, thanks for helping put that together.
I have the members of GEPH next month.
Then after that... Not sure who.. any thoughts?

Re: A Podcast
Thank YOU Hammond. The songs you picked to intersperse in the interview were all great choices. For those who aren't familiar already, all music is played by Emmett, mostly pieces from Parallel Galaxy, his album released in 1985. One song we recorded at his house in 2006 for a music video, "Lotus on Irish Streams" by John McLaughlin. And the last piece "Gonnawannaland," was also Emmett from an album produced by Guillermo Cides called Stickistas. Looking forward to your GEPH interview too. As far as future suggestions. Tony Levin, of course. Did you interview Bob Culbertson? Tom G. Don Schiff? Maybe Jim Lampi. Rob Martino. Nick Beggs. Forgive me if you've already interviewed some suggested.

Re: A Podcast
Tony would be great! Of the people you listed the only one I have not spoken to yet is Jim Lampi. All of the others have been guests.

Re: A Podcast
Rodrigo Serrao. That guy has been lighting up and he's only been playing a year or two.

Re: A Podcast
Here's a nice example of Rodrigo's playing. Great guy, too. If you interview him, please don't forget to ask him about fado.

Re: A Podcast
Come on you guys, there's a lot of top players out there that we would love to hear: Guillermo, Jim Meyer, Youenn Landreau and this are just 3 of the people I had the pleasure of meeting and the honour to learn from at stick camp. All professional stick players for years, all different, all amazing. Then there's Alphonso Johnson and a bunch of other Giants in the stick universe. Not fair to put me up in the same sentence as this guys... Give me 10 years and I might have something to say - Kev's right: 9 months. My biggest, sole and very personal accomplishment is that my hands recognize the instrument and don't fight it anymore (don't know how to describe it better). And that's about it. Now the fun begins. Hammond, happy to see you on Facebook Sent by Tapatalk
