Post Re: FREE HANDS ACADEMY 2014
It would be great if Manny Tao, maker of Stickist.com, comes to FHA2014.
OR
Do a Free Hands Friday with Manny Tao.

I, personally, have gained so much from stickist.com and would like to hear how Manny came to start the site and what the evolution has been.
I'm assuming that Manny is a stick player as well... is this correct?

I think many of us would love to meet the man who is behind this site...

Post Re: FREE HANDS ACADEMY 2014
Greetings,

I'm getting excited to meet the Stick world at FHA next month. I'll be arriving in LA by train or bus from San Diego without a car on Wednesday morning. Might anyone be coming from the LA train station (Union Station) on Wednesday?

I can also get the Red Line Metro up to North Hollywood, if anyone might be coming from that direction.

I see that the LA metro orange line links up with the Red Line in North Hollywood and goes to Van Nuys, but I can't figure out quite what the the orange line is or how to use it.

Thanks for any advice folks can pass along,
Christian

HI Christian,

I arrive on Tuesday and have a car so I would be happy to drive down to Union Station if there is no one else coming from that direction.
What time is your train coming in?

I've done the ride from San Diego to Anaheim and it's a good way to travel.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for your note - I'd love to get a lift from the train on Wednesday! I've got a few options; what would be most convenient for you?

1. Amtrak to Union Station, arriving at noon
2. Amtrak to Union Station, arriving at 11:15 am
3. Metro to North Hollywood, arriving around 12:30 pm
4. Metro to North Hollywood, arriving around 11:45 am
5. Bus to Ventura Blvd and somewhere like Sepulveda Blvd or Van Nuys Blvd, arriving around 12:30

Union Station is about 20 miles down 101 from the Free Hands campus.
North Hollywood Metro station is about 9 miles from campus.
Ventura Blvd bus stops are about 2 or 3 miles from campus.

I've never done this trip before, so I don't know how easy it is getting around LA.

Please let me know what you think!
Bye for now,
Christian

I was considering changing strings before I show up. Rereading this thread, should I hold off until that Saturday for setup day or does it really matter?

t-minus 3 weeks and a bit

Andy, I'd say go ahead and change them. If I'm correct, a class on setup would be more packed with info about setting the height of the Flaps, the heights of the strings at the bridges, and the bridge positions forward/backward. These things can be done while leaving the strings on, so I say go for it. One less thing to worry about while at FHA.
