Post my first time playing out
Played my first time out last night. Turned out not too bad me thinks. 100 or so folks were introduced to the stylish soundings of the Stick at an open mic here in Brantford, Ontario. Just a few tunes.
Crowd dug it and so did I even though I was pretty nervous. That was my acid test. Next time will be a bit easier.

cheers,
kev

You made me laugh  and I guess it would be acid jazz for me in the same situation...

Fantastic Kev! Gongratulations! It's a big step when you solo in front of a bunch of strangers.
To echo Jerry n' Stickrad, what tunes did you play? Any pics/vid?

Eric

Kev,
Congrats, Kudos and you are on your way, baaaabeeee! I knew you could do it. If you played like your posts, your audience was in for a real treat!

As Benny Hill would say, it's like riding a bike without a seat, you never forget! :D

Open stages, that are supportive, are a great way to build a repertoire and gain confidence, also to try songs out. If they work, they are a keeper, if they lie on the floor with your audience's blank stares, then leave'em there.

Going out on a limb here, with a chainsaw behind me, but....I bet you were probably the only Stick player there among a whole bunch of acoustic guitarists playing Peaceful Easy Feeling, Our House or Fire and Rain! We often are so critical of our own playing, we forget we have a "halo effect" and a "ouuuu" and a "what is that thing" going for us, that we could crash and burn, and people will still love it!

Way to go- very proud of you Kev! I hope you inspire our other Stickists to do the same.
Dave Brosky

Good on You! as we say down here, its a great start the open mic thing, I've done a few, second in scariness only to posting my Youtube vids.
Dave above is right I found also, as soon as you appear just holding a STICK the wow factor has them, after they have seen a long line a guitars, you get not only to play it, but talk about it a little bit as well which is fun.
Keep it up! :)

KC - that is great to hear. My only regret is that I wasn't there to hear it. I too would love to hear your setlist. Did you play mad world? that Beck tune you do so well?

IMHO, short of having a personal trainer, playing out live will help to elevate you to your next level of mastery.

I really like your delivery, I think it fits an intimate unaccompanied format very well. If you have a simple setup and amp, you could play every week man, and I am hoping that you do.

You are the man!!!!

Great going!

I've still got a long way to go in terms of the skills and repertoire.

Also, did you bring your own amp(s) or used what was available at the location?

Félicitations (congratulations) Kevin!

Playing live is the way to go and the best way to gain confidence and control. It's also a great way to get better because you really have to know your stuff (which usually doesn't exclude a couple of clams). It also helps coping with the unpredictable (103 db girls' laughter, stepping on your cord which disconnects your instrument, or dealing with the police because you're playing outside on a terrace and someone complained) :-D

Now you have to do it again and it's gonna get better (and different) all the time.

All the best

Olivier
