Well, here are a couple of firsts:
First attempt at a simple Windows Movie Maker project
First time I ever upload a video on YouTube
First time I share anything from my ongoing "solo" recording project with people outside my circle of family and friends/musicians

Visually, it's a snore fest. But at least you can see pix of me the night I got my first drum set when I turned 12, the night of a concert as a senior in high school...and some more recent ones. Some of those recent ones show me in gig contexts from 2007 and 2009, some of my drum recording setup in my office, and some me in my pet-care-business-owner gig.

This features a very good friend of mine, guitarist Scott Hughes, whom I've been playing with since my days 20 years ago in the Jazz and Contemporary Music program at the University of Maine - Augusta. It also features a dear dear friend on a piano solo named Jim Goss. (Jim was the singer in the band from that old, grainy senior year concert photo, and he provided me with that picture.)

I've disabled comments on YouTube, because the only reason I uploaded this video is so I could get all of YOUR opinions on the tune. I hope you enjoy.

Very cool! is it a drum loop or are you playing drums on it?

I love the piano in the middle

Ah, the lone sympathy post is from Brett!

There are two drum-n-bass/breakbeat style loops panned apart. Samples galore, from Bowie, Rush, Styx, and Horowitz.

I love Jim's piano solo, too. :) He was in a McCoy Tyner mood for this one. I should also mention that the bass on here is played by another good friend named Geoff Chartier. I don't really need to replace his part, but then I like the thought of having my own Stick bass parts in my recordings...that's a while off.

Thanks for the reply!

Luc,

Really, really great! It was very lush orchestration with a Drums 'N Bass feel- the guitar kept the melody weaving in and out, and yes, very McCoy Tyner complex extended piano. All in all , very listenable and kept your attention throughout. Very peaceful too!

if you don't have all the time next time to do all the video, a lot of us here, present company included, use SoundCloud which is a great forum to have others hear your music, and also you can send private versions of your music to your "compatriots" ( are they in the next NFL draft pick on Thurs?) A National Concert Promotion company found me on SoundCloud and offered me to open for national acts. so there is a lot of good out there, and you can use it to post to Stickist.com too.

Try using the Stick for the Bass next time even if you use two hand tapping on the bass side. keep it simple, but always make it groove!!!!

can't wait for the next post,
Dave Brosky

Much appreciated, Dave. I signed up for a Sound Cloud account. :) I'm glad I won't have to make a (bad) video every time I want to share a tune.

Thanks for the encouragement!
