Tibetan school benefit this Friday in Charlottesville
It's a little last-minute but I've been asked to play a few tunes opening for a Tibetan singer at U.Va. this Friday night at 6:30. She will performing popular music and religious music as well. We may also perform a little together. A good cause and something different. If you're around please come by. details here: http://www.uvatibetcenter.org/?page_id=501

I Had a chance to work out a couple of things with her last night. An amazing sound of Tibetan folk songs and the Stick accompaniment together. If you are around and can make it you shouldn't miss this unusual and beautiful artist.

I hope audio & video gets recorded. I don't have my private jet available this weekend (it's the Don's turn this week), so I can't make it down. But I'd love to hear the results! Good luck and have a great gig!

Thank for all the enthusiasm. The venue wasn't very "good-looking" so not sure how things turned out, but I'll see what came of it. It was fun to learn a Tibetan tune. Easy pentatonic but with some pretty tricky phrasing. and we "jammed" on one where I played a pentatonic groove and she sang a traditional folk song over it.

Well, regardless of what it LOOKS like, at least it'll be good to hear what it sounds like, even if rough.

As a courtesy, I'll need to get permission from the singer before posting anything online, so one step after another....

Re: Tibetan school benefit this Friday in Charlottesville
some of you were interested in this, so please forgive the visual setting. It was a last-minute concert and the person who set it up did not really have a sense of a good visual setting. and the audio quality is not great, But here are two videos. The first is a popular Tibetan song called "Uncle Pema", and I do not know what the second is. Here's a link to a wikipedia article that explains the first song: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aku_PemaI'm hoping we can do some proper recording next week, while she is back in town:
