Re: Stick story in Bass Musician magazine
Nice, i'll have to pick it up. I always why I only see the stick mentioned in bass magazines and bass books, when it was designed by a guitarist, and a lot of people come at it from a guitar background or other instruments aside from bass. Oh well.

Oh well. That would be thanks to Mr. Tony Levin.

True enough, i suppose. even though him and Sean Malone are some of my favorites, most of my other favorite stick players come from a different background (Like Steve A., and Bob Culbertson).

Re: Stick story in Bass Musician magazine
To add some clarity... I've written numerous stories about The Stick or Emmett himself over two decades. I've had stories published in Twentieth Century Guitar magazine, JazzImprov, Downbeat, Guitar Player,on line mags. and a few others. I would estimate 15-20 stories/aricles over the years. This is the first time I've been asked to cover he Stick by a bass magazine. I will agree that the Stick's reputation has come from some noted bassists like Tony L, Alphonso, John Myung etc. I've often heard it refered to as a Stick Bass. And in this recent NE Stick Seminar, most students were also bass players. It is what it is. I write from a Stick perspective, not guitar or bass. It's both and then some.

Re: Stick story in Bass Musician magazine
BTW- I'm a full time Stick player, not guitar or bass. I will be included in a newly published book in September called "The Jazz Guitar Players Book" (or something like that). I will be entered as a Stick player alongside musicians like Pat Metheny, George Benson, John Scofield etc. This is a great validation that a Stick player can be part of that "guitar" community.
