Hi,

as you might know I have developed the iPhone/iPod Touch application FretBoard, which is a reference tool for players of the stringed instruments including ALL official Chapman Stick tunings (also SG12, Stick Bass, NS-Stick...).

Today Apple approved v1.5 of FretBoard which extends the tuning database to 132 instrument tunings. There were also some problems with the SG12 tunings which are fixed with this version.

If you like, you can try out the free version of FretBoard called FretBoard LE which has a limited database, but shows you all the features of FretBoard.

Here is a link to the free LE version.

This is the link to the full version of FretBoard.

And here is my little weekend present for the Stick community: Five free promotional codes that provide free downloads of the full version of FretBoard!

N7KNRT7N6FLL
LHE9XEXKYAY7
HFPA4MYFNWWA
6ATLJF3TYEME
TE6WFFPTFAKA

These codes can only be used in the U.S. iTunes Store, and each code is only valid once, so hurry up... ;-)

A great weekend to all of you!

Best,
TheMM

*sigh* if only I had an iPhone.

Well, I guess it's back to my ancient PalmOS, and thank you TheMM for that.

cheers,
me.

[edit]
re-reading my post at sane hours of the day, I think I forgot half the sentence.
I was thanking you for distributing the Palm version for free.
It works on my T|X, don't now about the newer ones, and it's a great resource.

Just for your entertainment, here is a screenshot of how FretBoard looked back in the PalmOS days:

I do not know if it works on the current PalmOS versions, and the instrument tuning database is definitely out of date (no Alto tunings, no SG12...). Anyway if you can get your hands on a Palm device, the old version is still available for free.

Best,
TheMM

interesting!

I was a user of Fretboard 1.2 many years ago when I was studying guitar, but only until now I realized that the iPhone version is an evolution of Fretboard 1.2 for Palm OS devices :D

Fretboard was one of the applications that I missed the most when I changed from Palm OS to iPhone and now, as a Stick newbie, I think Fretboard will be as useful as before.

Good job! :D :D :D

Manny, thanks for making this announcement global. But don’t you think this is a little bit "over-presence"? ;-)

Thanks,
TheMM

Nah, we're all amongst friends. I'll toggle it back down since the weekend promo is over.

A fantastic app. Been using it to memorize note locations and chords whilst I await my Stick.

Additional things I'd love to see:

The ability to lock the view on any given page so that it won't flip as the iPhone rotates and the accelerometer kicks in. With that feature you'd also need the note names to change orientation if you so desired. A portrait orientation instead of landscape, of you will.

A note quiz input. Tap on any string at any fret and the note will be displayed. Same for chords. Good way for beginners to start testing themselves.

Great job. Well worth the $6
