It's done! The Android version of FretBoard has landed in the Play Store. See https://www.stickist.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16934

I decided to try out your app tonight on my Samsung S7+ tablet. For guys like me who don't know much about scales and music theory, it can be challenging to figure out this app.

I get the main idea of it. I selected my 10 string Chapman Stick and changed the background to the blue one. I tried out the scales and chords settings. I tried changing the sound parameters. I slowed down the BPM to 40 for now, until I get up to speed on how this works. None of the sound playback really sounds like a Chapman Stick but the default Grand Piano seems ok for now.

This is a big learning curve for someone who ignores music theory and just plays music by ear. I really like the ability to make the fretboard larger so that it can be seen easier from a distance. 8-)

My first question: Is there an option to turn on/off the X-Fret for the Scales playback feature? My Railboard has the X-Fret so this is not an issue, but my Vintage Stick has no X-Fret and this makes it difficult to intuitively follow the notes as they are being played.

No, there is not such option. But I am currently working on the next version which will include the option to add your own tunings or to change the current ones which will enable you to build a tuning that matches your old stick.

And yes, it's true that the app can be overwhelming in the beginning, and you still need to memorise the scale or chord patterns and draw your own conclusions. But I think (and for me that works again and again) it makes visualising the theory on the fretboard more easy and therefore more easy to memorise.

I just paid and downloaded this app for iPhone (17.3.1).

It looks good - very useful.

On my phone it makes no sound at all. Seems like a bug…?

I’d like to switch off the X-fret because this doesn’t apply to 34” instruments, it’s confusing!

Good work, looking forward to an update

We already discussed this by email. Here are my ansers for everyone following this thread:

The app respects the hardware switch of your IPhone. Have you maybe switched the sound off?
The thought behind this is that you might want to have the scale/chord sometimes play just visually and sometimes with sound. And I did not want to introduce another button for that purpose on screen when there is a hardware switch for it.

In the next update there will be an instrument designer which you can use to change current tunings or even add your own. This will enable you to change the tuning to represent whatever you like.
