The price and availability of this instrument is also a factor. Guitars are more abundant because they can be purchased for as little as $50 in used condition and there are more people making them. A vintage Chapman Stick sells for typically $1200 and up. Newer versions can fetch prices equal to the cost of a new one because of demand and supply. Once the player acquires the instrument then the cost of amps, effects pedals, etc. drives the cost of ownership up even higher. This limits how many people can actually afford to own this instrument and the associated gear. The real question is how much disposable income is available for the average person to be able to afford such a fine instrument?
