Post Tap In Time, Episode 20 - Greg Howard/Playing Bach
Tap In Time, Episode 20, is up! Many listeners will recall that the Tap In Time crew has a great reverence for Bach's music and playing it on Stick (ref. Episode 5). With Greg's new book of Bach arrangements about to hit the market, it was a great time to invite him to join us so we could dive into it again. Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the invitation and for all the great work you and Gene and Rod and Claire do on this podcast, Victor. Now to get the book printed....

Oh goody. :) As a noobie I've been listening to these over the last few weeks. The Bach one was especially interesting, as was Rodrigo's (great music, great background info, plus a bonus tangent on cork farming!). Actually, they were all so interesting it almost feels unfair to just pick out some for mention.

Looking forward to finding the time to listen to this one. :)

Edit: typo!

I finally had time to listen to this episode. Thanks a lot!
What a lot of information, technical tips, and so on ...

I think I have to dig deeper into the "Bach's universe"!

Great interview with many insights!

For what it's worth, coming from a classical guitar background, playing Bach on guitar isn't necessarily a walk in the park, either. But, as was expressed by many in the interview, the struggle is totally worth it.

One of the best parts was Greg's parting advice on how to really experience this music... (1:27:30 - 1:28:05).

Looking forward to the book!

Ted

This was such a deliciously intense episode.

Thanks Greg for the reminders about 3 finger interval jumps, it’s something I know I want work on more. Everyone really expressed their passion on this episode, revealing lots about the stick journey and not just in the context of Bach, if that wasn’t already enough!

My sticky love and regards to the TIT team… Oh, that was a happy accident.

So happy that folks enjoyed the episode. One of our goals is to inject a bit of variety into the topics and content so each episode brings something fresh and interesting, and this one certainly accomplished that. :-)

Thanks again to Greg for bringing an instrument to the party!

This episode is long overdue. I really appreciated Greg's personal and patient approach to learning these pieces on the Chapman Stick. Being able to realize these works on the Chapman Stick was one of the reasons I was drawn to the Stick and hearing his thoughts on how to work through the specific instrument-related challenges was a breath of fresh air. I can't wait to get my hands on this book once it's available!

And Vic, Claire and Rod are always fun at a party. That and...

Off topic, but if your interests in harpsichord extend beyond Bach, check out
the Complete Fitzwilliam Virginal Book

Pieter-Jan Belder is a top performer on the instrument.

I got it not long after release when it was on an even better offer (< 10 UKP!).

Edit: Ah. I see a reason for at least part of the price difference now. When I purchased there was a download option that's not there when I look now.
