34 years as a Stickist
February marks 34 years for me of playing this amazing instrument. Still discovering new things, still learning, and still blown away by their tone and expressiveness.
An improvisers dream, The Stick is a high speed idea conduit.

Re: 34 years as a Stickist
Something like 15 years ago I went to see the California Guitar Trio here in Indianapolis. Some guy I'd never heard of named Greg Howard opened for them, playing that Stick instrument I'd only ever seen Tony Levin play before (with King Crimson).
Before that I thought the Stick was best suited for bass lines like Tony played. You showed me it can be SO much more. You inspired me to want to play one myself some day. My Railboard should arrive sometime this month (fingers crossed!), and my journey will begin.
Thanks!

Re: 34 years as a Stickist
Congratulations Greg...on my side I miss the train when I saw it around 1975...was too busy to learn guitar at that time. Can you imagine if I buy it 44 years ago? Lol...Nothing to regret, I learn something else and still have fun to learn the stick for about 8 years now.

Re: 34 years as a Stickist
31 or 32 years here. Or somewhere in between..... Don´t remember exactly.... But it is indeed a fantastic instrument. Greg is SOOO much better than I am. I don´t practice enough. The Stick is actually the most IMPORTANT instrument for me personally but it is still one among many instruments that I play and my main instrument is bass. But it is emotionally the most important instrument for me..... And it looks like there will be ALOT of Stick playing for me this year during 2019. Practising more than ever now. <3

Congratulations, Greg, and thanks for all you do! I'm sure it's been a long, strange--and worthwhile--trip along the way.

34 years as a Stickist
Well, I quit smoking just so that I could get to have 34 years with the instrument.... I can imagine that it won’t be enough to stop having fun either Free hands but also, free mind isn’t it? Emmett’s creation has reached far and wide. So have you my friend. Enviado do meu iPhone usando o Tapatalk
