It all started basically with a strung up "two-by-four", albeit with rear side bevels and other geometric shapes at headstock and pickups to give it a distinctive look. Back then in mid '70s first productions, the setup was always the crucial thing and I focused on getting the action down uniformly low on every instrument that left my workshop. (I still do but now it's a lot easier because of innovations in design and hardware to accommodate such setup.)

Whatever the construction or the material used, I always managed to set up Sticks with careful precision, sometimes with a whole lot of fret work to make it happen. Now with the Railboard models in 8, 10 and 12 strings, there's no more dressing of frets. I think you'll like the new Grand Railboard. It's a bit heavy but shouldn't be a problem for most of you. It'll feel a lot like a regular hardwood or bamboo Grand Stick with the same string spacing at bridge and nut, but there are differences:

- The extra distance from Flaps and damper to first playable "X-fret".
- Even lower tapping "action" that stays that way.
- A mellower melody audio signal from the relocated neck pickup on that side.
- The "pinch" of the right thumb and fingers at the thin outer edge of the fretboard.
- The stereo jack output extending outward from your right thigh.
- A slightly more metallic "ring" overall.
