A great development in the Stick world. I've been dreaming about it for a few years now. Thank you SE!

Anyone can give a deep explanation about the passive/active mono/stereo pickup?

Many thanks to all of you here for the best reception to this new Stick model - bodes well.

It all started basically with a strung up "two-by-four", albeit with rear side bevels and other geometric shapes at headstock and pickups to give it a distinctive look. Back then in mid '70s first productions, the setup was always the crucial thing and I focused on getting the action down uniformly low on every instrument that left my workshop. (I still do but now it's a lot easier because of innovations in design and hardware to accommodate such setup.)

Whatever the construction or the material used, I always managed to set up Sticks with careful precision, sometimes with a whole lot of fret work to make it happen. Now with the Railboard models in 8, 10 and 12 strings, there's no more dressing of frets. It's a data base, machine cut from a single bar of aluminum, then "set in stone" with the hard anodizing aluminum oxide process (or in zirconium carbo-nitride with the vacuum vapor process).

I think you'll like the new Grand Railboard. It's a bit heavy but shouldn't be a problem for most of you. It'll feel a lot like a regular hardwood or bamboo Grand Stick with the same string spacing at bridge and nut, but there are differences:

- The extra distance from Flaps and damper to first playable "X-fret".
- Even lower tapping "action" that stays that way.
- A mellower melody audio signal from the relocated neck pickup on that side.
- The "pinch" of the right thumb and fingers at the thin outer edge of the fretboard.
- The stereo jack output extending outward from your right thigh.
- A slightly more metallic "ring" overall.

Anticipation to realization, thanks again for waiting, Emmett.

I love reading the nuts and bolts of making Sticks, and phrases like this is Stick porn to me:

Ah, the whole thing is incredibly interesting to me!

Congratulations, Emmett, on another creative masterpiece! I know the community has looked forward to this for a long time, and I've enjoyed hearing about the progress along the way! Dean teased a sight of it a few weeks ago. I can't wait to get a hold of one myself for some rocking out. I'm torn now between a wenge grand or the railboard grand...That aside, I had a couple of quick questions.

Questions:
1) Is there video of this new Railboard configuration being rocked out somewhere yet?

2) What's next on the Stick horizon in terms of new products, or existing tweaks to old products? You've had such a long line of innovation and explorations into different materials and production methods and set-up techniques; what gap in the Stick world do you see needing to be filled next?

Thanks, Emmett and SE, and congratulations on the realization of your latest creation, the 12-string Grand Railboard. So exciting!

Glad you like my Stick porn, Steve, and I guess porn and geekiness are somehow related. Your fractal porn is easily in the realm of art, urgently current art I'd say, and where do you draw the line between porn and art? Where has it ever been drawn?

Your questions:

SS - Is there video of this new Railboard configuration being rocked out somewhere yet?"

EC - I'll make one soon, unless somebody beats me to it.

SS - What's next on the Stick horizon in terms of new products, or existing tweaks to old products? ,,,what gap in the Stick world do you see needing to be filled next?"

EC - The "RG-12".

Hmmn. I know what I'll be buying this summer...

I want an SG12 badly too, but if an "RG" is coming it might make sense to wait a bit... Thanks Emmett, your products rule.

Provided this is really environmentally friendly, this process looks like it might be something cool to build instruments with if feasible: https://m.techxplore.com/news/2018-02-w ... ghter.html

This past couple of weeks I’ve been really getting schooled in 3-D printing. Just had something created at work, but was not tough enough to use. I happen to mention the issue to one of our vendors on an unrelated issue, and he told me about theirs which can make things out of a material strong enough to modify and fasten metal objects into. I also have other material options available, so I’m sure I’ll be experimenting with this pretty soon.
