Post Impulse Festival of Improvisation, Jan 26/27 Charlottesville
Hi everyone,

In my capacity as an adjunct music department faculty member at UVA I have organized a festival of improvised music on January 26-17.

The Impulse Festival, a Celebration of Improvised music through time includes traditional genres that employ improvisation as well as contemporary artists like Ayman Fanous, Stephen Nachmanovitch, Anthony Davis, and Wadada Leo Smith and the Golden Quintet. Wadada was honored in the 2017 Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll as best jazz artist, best trumpeters and best album, for America's National Parks which his Quintet will be prforming in a multi-media performance on Saturday Night.

I'll be performing on Saturday afternoon with AZUL and the UVA New Music Ensemble, for which I am this semester's interim director.

It should be amazing. I hope you can make it!

Most of the concerts are free. For more details please see:

Sounds cool, I wish I wasn't so far away. Will you be getting recordings or video?

Warm waterfall of music, just where I want to be. Dancing in my swivel chair, laughing at the ending. Greg is pure concentration, and with inspiration. John is so disciplined, and with abandon, reminding me of Bob Culbertson in his mastery and dedication. Brian is the driving force, the beating heart of a trio with no preconceived direction, no goal except where the music may lead.
