Post Stick Night, climb on the "Stickband" wagon
An email from Emmett:

Welcome to a most unique "Stick Night" featuring the revival of the late '70s "STICKBAND" with JIM BRUNO (EVI and NS/Stick), BOB CULBERTSON (Grand Stick) and BOB COOPER (drums), also with Stick artists DON SCHIFF, BOB and myself (EMMETT) in various solo and duo combinations or with drums.

It will be held Saturday, Sept. 23rd, 2017, starting at 7:30 PM in the rear theater of The Guitar Merchant music store in Canoga Park, CA.

STICKBAND of San Jose has a new Website about its music, players and history at:

BOB CULBERTSON of Sevastopol on 12-string "Grand Stick".

DON SCHIFF on the NS/Stick bass guitar including a half fretless model, combining all manner of simultaneous tapping and plucking techniques with just 2 hands on 8 strings (and some creative looping thrown in).

EMMETT CHAPMAN on his gold Railboard, also improvising in trio with drums and electronic trumpet. I've worked up a solo arrangement of "Black Velvet (if you please)" and some other well known hits, which I'll methodically tear apart, then try to put back together again.

The acoustics and ambience are excellent in Phil's medium sized rear theater and Bill's sound system is tailored perfectly to the room to provide just the right balance and ambience for audience and players.

Admission is $15. at the door, with complimentary beer and soft drinks on hand for all.

Guitar Merchant is located at 7503 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park, just south of Saticoy St. (and north of Sherman Way). Tel: 818-884

Hope to see you there, Emmett.

Oh I so wish I could go but alas Canada is not so close. Wish it could be broadcast at some point.

Post Re: Stick Night, climb on the "Stickband" wagon
I am probably one of the newest members of the Stick community, having purchased #6705 (ash, 10 String Classic) last month. When I saw the announcement on Stick.com, I knew I had to be there, but I live in central Illinois. No matter - I booked a flight for Saturday morning to arrive in LA the afternoon of the 23rd, with a redeye return at 1:15 AM after the show. Yes, YOLO.

Anyway, the show was simply amazing - there is no way to do it justice in words. All of the solo, duo, and band combos were excellent, along with the variety of Sticks (10, 12, and NS), instruments (EVI, Didgeridoo, and whatever that pedal-drone thing Bob Culbertson played is called), and voices (Don Schiff). A small but enthusiastic crowd wad there in an excellent, intimate setting at the Guitar Merchant (thanks, Phil, for your hospitality!). Most, if not all of it, was recorded, so I hope those videos get out there soon.

Best of all, I got to meet all the players, who were all most gracious and inspiring. Jim Bruno, Bob Culbertson, and Don Schiff gave me some beginner pointers and encouragement. And saving the best for last, Emmett and I had a most pleasant conversation, and he even introduced me to his wife and daughters. Truly a night to remember. As mentioned in another post, check out Stickbandsj.com for more - Scot is doing an excellent job with the chronicle of the history of the band.
