All, Robin and I are in the final stages of planning for the Future Sounds Now 2017 gathering. The event will be held on Friday, January 20 at our normal watering hole, Lopez and Lefty's in Anaheim, which is a quick stroll from the Anaheim Convention Center. Music starts at 8pm and admission is free. This year will be quite different from previous FHA Stick Nights in that we will be having company, or companies should I say. This year, some our illustrious FHA Alumni have tapped into their contacts to bring about greater awareness for products that they are passionate about and invited them to join us for an evening of music and frivolous merriment. I am speaking of course about Jeremy Cubert and Dean Kobayashi. Roger Linn Design Jeremy has been coordinating with the good people at Roger Linn Design and verified that not only will Geert Bevin be coming out to join in the music, but Roger Linn himself will be there. Jeremy's journey with the Linnstrument is well known among us in the Stick community, he's a true-new-musical-instrument aficionado. MOD Devices Dean Kobayashi of the NS Channel has been the ringbearer of the MOD Duo as long as I have known him. MOD Devices is a relatively new company but they have a passion for creative and ingenious design as well as a good sense of community, a combination near and dear to my heart. MalletKAT Mario De Ciuitiis, Evan Ritchie and Gina Ferrera from Alternate Mode will be laying down the foundation this year. MalletKAT is pretty much breaking the mold each year when it comes to revolutionary electronic drums. Gina joined us for our first event back in 2012 - it's going to be good to be performing music with her again. Stick Enterprises One of our personal faves of course! Emmett Chapman and company will be there. I have spoken briefly with Dan about the event and perhaps Gary Jibilian, but these guys get busy, so I can't be sure - but one can always hope. There will be a whole slew of Stickists on hand ready to share music with: Steve Adelson Emmett Chapman Jeremy Cubert Tom Griesgraber Japhlet Kevin Keith Dean Kobayashi Gene Perry I am also hopeful that I will be able to perform a few Bach pieces with Claire, we'll see! Robin and I are very excited about the event and are hopeful that if you are in town, you'll join us for some good food, good music and good cheer. |

This sounds like a dream(or even dreams) come true! Not necessarily for the faint of heart or the purist. This sounds like a true "reaching out" event. Congratulations on putting this together Gene and others involved. If P. T. Barnum could get his hands on this...well he might ruin it, but I am confident you guys will make the best of it!!! Mike |

Thanks Mike, big time tip of hat to Robin for getting it going. It's going to be pretty special. I will do my best to get some live footage of each performance. That's also going to be a Friday, so I suspect we'll pull out some live footage as well. Admission is free, so if you are in the area, please come by - cheers. |

Ok, T-Minus 4 days until Stick Night - NAMM Anaheim - Future Sounds. If you are in the area local or going to NAMM please come join us at Lopez and Lefty's Sports Cantina 1759 S. Claudina Way, Anaheim, CA 92805 Happy Hour at 7pm and Music at 8. As mentioned before, Stickists Steve Adelson, Tom Griesgraber, Kevin Keith, Nima Rezai, Jeremy Cubert, Dean Kobayashi, Japhlet Bire Attias, Gene Perry and Jim Meyer will be holding court!! I may have neglected to mention to the group that Emmett will be a little too busy to attend this year. He dropped us a line about it and was quite the gentleman about it - he's swamped. We did just recently confirm that Jim Meyer will be joining us, so again the Pan-American tri-primality is in effect with Japhlet in attendance. I am hoping that all in attendance will be documenting and sharing for our friends in other parts of the world. |
