Post Chapman Stick educational resources
Hi everyone, I hope you're doing well as we enter the holidays and get ready for the new year. I have some really big announcements to make. One is that GEPH is gearing up to get our second album recorded, and in my opinion this one blows the first out of the water. I'll have much more to say on that later, as there are still a number of details that need ironing out.

What I really want to talk about is my birthday (January 6th) and the gift I've made for myself this year. 2 years ago, my gift to myself was releasing my solo album, which saw some international success and recognition. Last year GEPH had a big show at one of the more well known venues out in the Middlesex, MA area.

2017 is going to be a bit different. This coming year I will be launching a tiered subscription service to a huge amount of educational materials I've generated for the Chapman Stick. Some of you guys might have seen some of my Stick Science series, well I've revamped and rethought the series and what's come from it is Tap Theory.

Tap Theory will encompass more than just bad jokes and Stick concepts; it will include things like technical lessons, music theory as applied to the Stick, exercises specific to each lesson, playthrough videos of both arrangements of popular songs and studies I've written targeting specific techniques, breakdown videos for each playthrough, and their transcriptions available in Tab, and on request, sheet music. I'll also be offering real time, face to face Skype lessons.

Subscription starts at just $1 a month, and each tier has something unique and exciting for every level of player that I believe makes it well worth the admission price. I really hope you guys like it, I'm greatly looking forward to the opportunity to help take your Stick playing to the next level, as well as the opportunity to grow alongside you.

With that said, keep a look out around the forums on January 6th, and have a happy holiday and a fucking epic new year!

Here are some examples of the content I'll be providing:

Fretboard shots of intervals, scales and chords. This is the form 1 shape example of the minor pentatonic scale:

Tab transcriptions of arrangements of popular tunes. This is from my arrangement of I Shot the Sheriff by Bob Marley and the Wailers, an intermediate level arrangement:

I'm not hugely familiar with tab stuff, but I can read "regular" sheet music, particularly Grand Staff. I like the way the five lines of each stave correspond to the 5 strings on each side of your standard 10-string Stick. I could instantly see what was going on here. I should really get into tab stuff more.

Good luck on your website and with your school! Looks very interesting!

Scott - Thanks man, my greatest hope is that one day someone can take what I've done and what Steve and Greg and Bob and Brett and all the other amazing Stick players out there have done and bring it one step farther.

Steve - Thanks man! I think the Tab stuff is important because it's a way for players who can't read music to still be included. Ultimately sheet music is universal, as it is the written language of music before an instrument comes into play, but many people who want to learn can't read music or don't want to spend the years-long journey required to become fluent, and they shouldn't be excluded for it! I'm glad you were able to take one look at it and instantly understand it, as I've been working to refine my Tab style for a while now and feedback like that tells me I'm headed in the right direction.

Well, until that day comes, I will be out there taking stuff one, if not two steps backward! Haha I look forward to seeing what you do!

Doubtful man, I've been watching your playing progress for a while now and you're really getting better and better! Thanks, I hope you're able to get some use out of Tap Theory.

Hey Josh .I'll be interested in this , really enjoyed the Stick Science Series ( including the jokes ) . I've done about 20 open Mic nights this year but need some fresh impetus so this is cool. Your progress and drive has been great to watch ( & hear ! ).
Cheers from Australia. :D :D

Bruce - Thanks, it means the world to me that you've been with me long enough to see my growth. I'm really excited to launch this thing, I think it has a lot to offer.

Stuart - Awesome, I'll see you at launch day!
