Post offering...coolass polychord
Discovered in a Metheny composition

left hand play a Major triad
right hand plays a minor triad 1/2 step below

I.e.
Bminor/Cmajor
net composite
CEGBDF#= Cmaj7/9/#11
Can be used as a IV chord in G or an altered tonic in C
spread voicing to avoid lots of conflict

Try it. Sounds best in a progression of like minded exploratory harmonies

I love that chord. Maj7#11 has 4 different and unique functions that I've found depending on what the root note is.

If we've got a Cmaj7#11 then it functions as so:
>Over C - Cmaj7#11 - C lydian, or the 4 of G major
>Over A - Am7,13 - A dorian, or a cool extension of the minor 1 chord
>Over Ab - Ab7#9 - Ab altered dominant, or an Ab Jimi Hendrix chord and the 5 of Eb
>Over D - D7,9,13 - D mixolydian, or the 5 over G major

I love chameleon chords like this, I always have so much fun leaving the roots out or substituting and modulating through shifting the roots underneath the same or similar chord structures to get different effects. That 9th in there, the D, will surely add even more color to the chord and its functions. A great find!

I'm just getting it Steve, your instruction has really helped me a lot. I have been working on learning the chords with my right hand more lately, and I have been playing around with the polychords at the same time. "It's getting better all the time..."

Si.
The logic perspective via the visual aspect of The Stick is so incredible.
The geography of the fingerings can be so easily navigated.
In this case simply form identical Major chords in each hand. Move the right hand down one fret and make it minor. Voila!
I approach most of my harmonic concepts using this visual system of simplicity.
Six basic chord shapes placed geographically around the neck promoting a harmonic celebration of complex sounds in a uniquely simplified way.
To understand the ingenious tuning of The Stick is to unlock the secrets of sonic creativity.

Nice...that's the way I like music to be explained. I do the same. For your example, Steve, instead of using a Bm, sometimes I use a triad of D...two notes are simalar...D and F#...I leave the B at the bottom and add an A at the top...this A being a 13th of the Cmaj chord.

ACEB CEG#

Wouldn't a much simpler naming convention be an Amin/maj7add9? I guess it's tomayto tomahto Lol although, I guess it's no easier to say a bunch of times quickly...
