Album 8 is done. It features MR and DBR Grand Sticks plus electric and acoustic guitars.

You can listen here. The condensed score is posted here in case you want to see what's what.

Really glad I had two tunings, as some parts that were trickier on one were easier on the other.

Nice work, man! Listening to it now it's really well done; I love the orchestration. I'd be curious to read about what all went into creating this. Gear, timeframes, etc etc. I'll be taking a look at the scores here to see what's what, but hey! Sounds great!

Initially reminds me of the Grand Wazoo with the mallets and odd time signatures.
I'll have to check out your other postings. Sure is a lot going on! Impressive.

Wo!

John, that's a pretty hefty submission, right there with the pdf score and all, casually thrown up for good measure. Pardon the pun...

Dude. You have to get that stuff played by human beings. I can hear the structural elements from the recording and you've really developed your own sound. Congrats!!

8.3 Beautiful melody!

8.4 The next Nordic noir soundtrack, get that stuff to someone who can use it, film makers ...

If I can make another suggestion, go to colleges and Universities and put students to work, strings/horns etc, over your compositions. I'm not very familiar with your exploits so far, I'm sure you've probably had some experience doing this, or at leas playing with other folk.

8.6 Love the arpeggio!

Just another comment, I can't really discern the stick amongst all that lusciousness . Maybe that's a good thing. I just feel like it would be good to hear more of the stick at certain intervals.

Here's dreaming big.... Maybe you and I can get together when I finally come to the states and we can do a combined concert with our arrangements. You know how hard it is to organise orchestras in the first place. Might be a worthy cause for any such collective.

8.7 B Section , awesome chordal movement..

8.8 Such beautiful simplicity and definition between the parts.

8.9 "Great work is always informed by anguish" Leonard Bernstein

Thanks so much for putting all this together and sharing it so openly. I'll definitely be coming back to some of your chord choices to see what the hell they are!

Lots o Luv.

I like. So I'm listening here Sat. nite and I have the tv on w/ the sound turned down and the movie Black Swan is on and it's about 20mins. into the movie and 8.1 is ROCKING AS THE SOUNDTRACK. I bring up the sound on the movie and it's typical queer string pukey stupid bullshit. Just sayin'

Thanks, guys. I agree it's kind of sountracky. A real orchestra would be great. Maybe someday.

Jayesskerr, the gear was minimal. Two Sticks, two guitars, one synth, and a Zoom pedal.

The main tool was the pencil. I wrote this in coffee shops and libraries without an instrument. Just a metronome with reference pitches.

After the score was done, I took it home and read each part one at a time till it was all done. I had to tweak a few things here and there, but it turned out about 95 percent the way I'd planned.

Thanks for listening. This one was a lot of work.

Well John, you must have one hell of an ear to pull off that degree of "cafe composition"!

Great job...wow...and everything is written. It makes me think to Zappa in some passages. And what about these rythm changes...3/4, 7/8, 15/16 and many others...just amazing...

Great music...congratulations.

Please! No! Don't take what I said as derogatory! Totally dug it. I'm a Zappa Freak so the whole "dots on paper" thing appeals to me. Just didn't want to go w/ the "Grand Wazoo" reference. GREAT SHIT!!!
