Post ONE CLOUD
There's a fair number of new Stick players here over the last year or so and I would just like to make you aware that Rob Martinos record "One Cloud" is a must have for any Stick player. Rob has a very rich and unique sound, very full range so to speak. His compositions are absolutely fantastic, truly sweet sounding.....
He's heavily influenced by some of my fave bands of yore.....Rush, Marillion, Jethro, etc...and you can really hear those influences in his playing style, particularly Jethro (in my mind anyway).

It never, ever gets old for me, and I listen to it more regularly than I'm willing to admit.

I urge you go buy his record,(itunes, etc) if you don't already have it...

cheers,
Phan Boi

Cheers, Kev, I love what I've seen on Youtube for Rob Martino! He's one of my favorite Stickists, being a little more on the rock side as you say. I'll have to get that whole album then. This has got to be my alltime favorite Stick song so far--that's not Bob Culbertson. :)

Yeah, good reminder there Phan Boi!
Bit of a Youtube Stick classic is One Cloud.

One Cloud is in constant play mode for me. I agree with Kevin again on this one. I love Robs Rich textures and compositions.

I prefer his original rendition of Tull's "Wond'ring Aloud," which I can't seem to find on Youtube anymore. Rob is great, highly overlooked in this community.

Worth to note that Rob tunes both sides in 4ths. He thinks that works better with his choice of music to play and how to play it. Most players go with the 5ths vs 4ths.

Well this is a nice surprise! Thank you for the thread Kev and Merry Christmas everyone.

There have been some big life changes the past couple years that resulted in a musical hiatus for me, so I haven't been as active as I have been in years past. Our son turned 10 months old on Christmas and after an intense year of preparation and transition we have been living in Edinburgh Scotland for a month now. My job in the music applications group at Apple is great and while we are still getting settled (our sea shipment of belongings has yet to arrive) we are enjoying this beautiful country and meeting lots of friendly people.

At some point in the next few months I'm hoping to get out a bit and pursue some local open mics and other informal performance opportunities, but I'd also like to make more videos and recordings, there's still lots of stuff I've never shared on a larger scale.

All the best to everyone in the stickist.com community!

And here you go K Rex:

Rob, we miss you here in Virginia. Glad to hear you are settling in, and hope you get to make some music over there soon.

Rob is a great player, and it's been a pleasure to share the stage with him several time here at Stick night's.

If you'd like to find out more about Rob's CD, and his tuning, which he's proved so well it is a standard tuning option on Grand Sticks since 2008, please check out this artist feature from 2010:
