Sending all my love and gratitude to Greg. And so much respect.
He is an indispensable part of Chapman Stick history, both as a player and representative of the instrument to the outside world. He must have fielded thousands of questions in this forum alone. I don’t know what else to say, except thanks Greg, for everything you continue to do.

I'm incredibly upset and concerned. A monumental musician and educator.

So sad am listening to his "new" re-release non-stop.
Everyone that has had any communication w/ Greg has a story. The man went out of his way to get a copy of his tutorial into my hands...which were not "free" until then. (I still "tap time" w/ my left foot.)
Get well Greg.

I had a PM from @DavidWS this morning, and he asked if I’d heard about Greg.

What a gut-punch.
An incredibly generous and talented performer and educator. He loaned me one of his Railboards at the Interlochen workshop two years ago as mine was still on order. He introduced me to the joys of playing Bach. I learned so much from him through his books, videos and in person at Interlochen that I’ve progressed beyond my most optimistic expectations. I made regular contributions via his website to say “thanks.” He’s one of those rare teachers that is always trying to improve how he communicates ideas and techniques to his students. We tried to connect for a couple of lessons last year, but he may have been dealing with health issues.

So sad that we’re losing him.

Ugh…

Jim Reilly messaged me on Monday.

When I first heard, to be honest, I was really pissed. I rang Justin Levis (Evil Gus) and we both felt the same. It's so hard when I feel like Greg has reached out and made myself and so many others feel a part, of this amazing community... The tyranny of distance just ads value to Greg's contributions.

It makes me think that, on the level of community, shared enthusiasm, love, power of thoughts and on a soul level, we're all very connected. For me, this small community that has something unique to share and to give, is so important. Greg sustained all of us.

I just hope that Greg's is in relative comfort. I'm sure he'll be feeling how much love we all have for him. Damnit!

Lotsa love, I share this sad news with the whole stick fam.

I just heard this news - very unfortunate and sad. Greg's an unparalleled player and musician - he really accomplished a lot and brought a lot to the Stick community...
I don't know the details of his illness, but I wish him and his family well.

Is it unrealistic to hope that this is just some internet untruth?

This is a pretty surreal thing to read, I literally came on here today to try and find more info about his lessons. I recently moved to Goochland VA, which is about 45 minutes east of Charlottesville, and had it in my mind "man I might be able to learn from one of the grandmasters if Greg's willing to do a in person lesson." Totally sad to hear, hopefully his condition turns around and he's able to get back to normal life. I've never met the man, but my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Brett wrote me a few days ago, he had just spoken to him on the phone. Considering our history, I debated whether or not writing him would be appropriate but sent him a brief message conveying my respect and admiration.

Greg's influence is as far-reaching as the respect he's earned in the music community. If I've learned anything about him over the years, it's that Greg is a determined, tenacious man, full of energy. If anyone can beat this, it's him, and I wish him comfort as he fights this battle.

I hope all my old friends here are well.

K
