For what its worth I reckon these soft cases are pretty good compared to some I've had for guitars. I travel by air with the ALTO Stick quite alot and its perfect hand carrying on planes. Although the padding is thick and solid I also bubble wrap the instrument and line the inside of the case with tough cardboard as well and wrap it round the ends. :D

Just too bad the accessories pouch is located on the upper section of the new gig bags. I like my old bag better.

I agree, it is a bit of a bummer. If I remember right, it was moved because stuffing things into the pocket could pressure on the belt hook and pickups. Some sort of counter weight added to the bottom or changing the location of the carrying handle could help alleviate this some. I should experiment with that some.

Andy and Olivier, I will pass on your thoughts about the pocket placement.

I've been using these bags for air travel for many years, and the Grand Stick in a soft case doesn't weight much at all, even on long hikes through airports you have to make these days.

I would actually love to see two pockets.
I have one of the very first gig bags and the pocket was very small. My second generation (with the painted logo and the low pocket) was much better in that respect, but it was still smallish for me.
I resolved that by having good ol' mom make me a soft pouch: I put my belt inside the bag in a loop on the backside of the stick and wedge it into the belthook. The soft pouch goes inside the loop formed by the belt.

Not sure about counter weight. Maybe just move the pocket to the mid point so it doesnt place stress on the lower part of the stick, but isnt so high up either?

My stick is from the early 2000s and the instrument is placed in it after every use. Only recently has the fabric been worn enough from me not trimming strings enough to tear into the fabric. A little gaffers tape fixed that right up. I should however add a leather patch to the inside.

Maybe another design suggestion to SE?

Another thing on my wishlist for the soft bag.

It should include some extra tough padding in the bottom of the bag (where the Stick tail lies).

I've added some myself after having heard a "thud" when I dropped the bag a little roughly on it's bottom on a pavement. Stick wasn't hurt. But that definitely triggered the extra padding.
