Post Moves on Touchboard - 1976 article that still inspires.
Hi everyone,

Those of you with copies of Free Hands will already have this article, which is reprinted in the back...

It's been added to the articles page at stick.com:

Thanks for posting that, Greg. Personally, I will wait for my copy of Free Hands. ;)

Indeed an excellent read!
One of the first things I read in Free Hands after being alerted to its chess metaphors. It seemed quite the happy coincidence that I used a picture of a chessboard as a sample for the color of the dye on my Stick.

Pretty dope article! I told one of my buddies about The Stick a few days ago and he couldn't believe it had been around for 30 years. Even today it seems it's years ahead of it's time.

Cool, I have the book but haven't look at it in years. I printed the article and will read it during lunch. Good work/lunch reading!

The image of chess moves really resonated with me. I especially like seeing the knight's moves in harmonic intervals.

Code:
- | - | - | - | - |
m3| - | - | - | - |
- | - | R | - | - |

- | M6| - | - | - |
- | - | - | - | - |
- | - | R | - | - |

- | - | - | M7| - |
- | - | - | - | - |
- | - | R | - | - |

- | - | - | - | - |
- | - | - | - | 5 |
- | - | R | - | - |

- | - | - | - | - |
- | - | R | - | - |
- | - | - | - | M6|

- | - | R | - | - |
- | - | - | - | - |
- | - | - | m3| - |

- | - | R | - | - |
- | - | - | - | - |
- | m2| - | - | - |

- | - | - | - | - |
- | - | R | - | - |
4 | - | - | - | - |

And of course because the inverted 5ths and ascending 4ths are parallel tunings, these knight moves apply to the bass side as well as the melody side...
