Hi Rodan, same thing happened to me with the rules for when to use 2 or 9, when to use 6 or 13 etc... I was humbly corrected. I had said that the upper tetrachord of Locrian is the Locrian tetrachord but actually it's the same as the lower tetrachord for Lydian so there's no reason to give it a new ...

Yeah, and if you make your own list, don't keep forgetting everything you want to put in it the way I do. I forgot to include practicing trills and repeated notes. Trills have several ways they can be performed; you can start on the low note before the beat or on the beat OR you an start on the high...

I also forgot to mention after you get to moving a long string of motives around the Dance Directions to then incorporate motive schemes like aabc aaba aabb abaa abba abab and the like. If that proves too tough then spiral down to aab or abb and you should be good to go. Although of course you can j...

I'm definitely going to be working on this as well. I forgot to mention going through the scales with string skipping the pinky, string skipping the middle finger, string skipping both the pinky and the middle finger, string skipping the first finger etc.. Another idea is to play through the scale m...

For the Freejazz/Jazzfusion thing I've been a proponent of in my latest three videos and several uploaded documents, I've put together a list of what to go over in the woodshed; 1 Practice three note per string scales where you ascend then scooch up a half step [or whole step] before you descend the...

Here's the deal with tetrachords in relation to modal scales; The Ionian SCALE has a lower tetrachord which we're going to call the Ionian TETRACHORD. The Ionian SCALE's UPPPER tetrachord's interval content is the same as the lower so it's also an Ionian tetrachord. The Dorian SCALE has an Aeolian l...

I'm sickened by what rock/metal culture has done to young people's brains and lives. They've careened off the road and fallen into the pool of blood in the pit at the bottom of hell.

Hi Rodan, your system is sound in principle but I'm sorry to inform you that CDEF is Ionian, not Lydian. That would need an F# instead of an F. Maybe that's a typo. Also, what constitutes a Dorian scale is the raised 6th from minor [which belongs to the upper tetrachord]. The lower tetrachord DEFG w...

The website on memorization said that when you have something to memorize that doesn't seem to have much of a pattern then to just chunk things into groups of 2,3 or 4. On the attached page are some motives and not only are most of them individually named, they're also numbered in the order to play ...

Hi Kev, I thought the post on how to play major minor modes was similar to what you're talking about. Every once in a while I throw in a post like on how to play "August, Die She Must," or whatever it's actual name is, by Neil Simon etc... They're on the board, here and there. I seem to us...
