You can play the graphs? Didn't know that.
All I know is that I didn't understand a word of Shenkarian analysis and I got an "A "on my project, which makes me question the authenticity of the theories. I couldn't grasp species counterpoint either but it showed in my grades.

I've got to say that I only glanced at the pics, and they gave me a headache. I'm not saying that They aren't great, they just aren't for me. I wish I could think of music this way I just can't (schenerian analysis almost killed me :o ) If someone could "play" this stuff for me I'd love to... |

OK Steve is this a moment of Zen on your behalf? Or, were you just looking for a way to share your joke? :D Of course I agree 100% about the stick. Now about the baseball thing, being a Red Sox fan I can't say I'm shedding any tears about your Yanks...........Perhaps it's Karma (they couldn't beat t... |

Of course we should. I am just shaking things up. YES learn to read, learn theory, but don't neglect the ears. Even if we can't raise our aptitude we can increase learning and accomplishment. But the ears should come first.
thats all i'm saying.

People can study any real music related subject without reading. It takes a really high aptitude but it can be done. I've heard it.

Who is suggesting that? I certainly am not. Music notation has incredible value. And as far as The stick being used as a comping instrument the equal of a piano, I think it can be it's equal. I don't think we have had a great player yet that is a true master of this aspect of the instrument (very go... |

Really interesting thread. Here is my take. In music the ears are everything. Period. Oh theory is great, reading is wonderful, technical skills are fantastic. But EARS ARE EVERYTHING. period. Music is sound, not shapes on a fingerboard, not little black dots on a staff. Of course when we say ears, ... |

Wow Rob I never knew of Orion studios. The place looks great, and they are very Progcentric. Have you recorded there?
