Hey Tony thanks for the compliment. Steve I can relate as well. The jazz world can be very difficult to break into as a stickist. I have found most players come around when they hear you can play, but not everyone. Some guys just want upright bass period. I have a friend who plays bebop piano he rea... |

Hey Steve Try this: Just keep a quarter note rhythm in your left hand even if its the same few notes over and over. Then try soloing with the right. Don't try to be charlie parker just get a feel for phrasing. I starts out as baloney but you get the same sensation doing this that you will when you g... |

Thanks a lot Steve You don't know how much I appreciate the input. In essence I set out to make a jazz cd as close to the music I love as I could. The idea was to take a quartet into the studio and just play some tunes. I wanted a raw feel (warts and all) with little or no overdubs. Unfortunately I ... |

You open your real book take a deep breath and go. As your playing you walk through unfamiliar changes while c... |

Those hands! Whenever I see him play I notice his hands first. I notice the same thing when I see pro basketball or American football players. I'm not a small man at 6ft., but the really good ones can pick up a basketball with one hand while I can't. I have a feeling that Bob could too. It is not r... |

Congratulations Steve You played something that very few people can. Your timing was really good. As far as what is next, I think you already know. Your a jazzer. So you want to get off the mixo and add more variety, color and dissonance. As a person coming from bass myself I can tell you that soloi... |

I have 2 grands one with Actv2 and one with a hybrid stickup bass/actv melody (I used this one on my new cd) I really like the sound of all of Emmetts pickups. My next stick will probably have pasv4. There are some tunes I like better with one stick and some with the other. I really think that the s... |
