I just took a Certification in English language teaching course and they've been trying to teach English for a long time now using methods like ppp; presentation, practice, production. The teacher P resents the word, sentence, phrase or whatever, then the class mimics it back during the to see if th...

I like that tune. Those were the days eh? I was doing jazz vocal in junior high and we had a great stage band. Later, when I was directing Jazz Combos and playing bass in the big band I was happy again. Wish we could all go back.

I'd be scared to eat THAT mushroom. Whatever vision you stepped into, you might never come back. I've got a bunch of stuff worked out by hand for fractal music but I've never actualized it. It has felt to me like fractals went out of style musically. But maybe I'll post some stuff up when I get sett...

I third it but I did see a statement in a publication by a reputable source that being able to play for an hour and improvise during the solo sections without repeating yourself was the mark of a pro. If Brett's not there yet, I'm sure he will be...maybe tomorrow. :D

Hot. If you can do that for an hour without repeating yourself during solos, then you should be acknowledged as a jazz pro on the stick, at least as far as single note improvisation is concerned. Get someone who regularly contributes to wikipedia to make a page for you.

Hey Stickrad, yeah, I imagine playing over the drone would help a lot to internalize the sound of each mode. I got them by singing the with solfeggio. If an ascending chromatic scale is Do Di Re Ri Mi Fa Fi Sol Si La Li Ti Do (Descending with Do Ti Teh La Leh Sol Seh Fa Mi Meh Di Do), then, for exam...

Anyway, the context matters for quartals. If you've set up the expectation in the quartal chords that you're only playing the root, fifth or 3rd in the highest voice of the chord for several passes for example, then when you hear four notes in fourths in the solo, your ear will interpret them in the...

I noticed that the runs I came up with based on my defy expectations scale are really hard to descend because when leading with the pinky back down there's not a straight diagonal as a default. If you melt the platonic solids as it were and decide that making it easier for our hand is more important...
